Detroit Area Job Training Programs
If you don’t want to go to college, there are lots of other ways to get job training. This is a list of over a dozen places to contact for job assistance.
City of Detroit Workplace Job Center
Detroit’s Work Place has a 20-station Computer Learning Lab at
455 W. Fort St., on the 5th floor,
customers may utilize this equipment for job search,
resume writing, and skill upgrading.

Youth and Adult Automotive Training Centers (YAATC)

Offers training program in automotive repair and maintenance,
also allows students to earn GED if needed.

Michigan Works! provides job placement and training programs.
National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC),
part of AmeriCorps, a federally-funded service program
(sometimes referred to as the “domestic Peace Corps”)

NCCC is a 10-month residential program for 18-24 year olds with at least a high school diploma or GED. Participants travel to various locations around the country, living in college dorms and working in community service projects in low-income areas or providing disaster relief. They receive a small living allowance, health insurance, student loan deferment, and a $5,000 educational grant at the end of their service.

A member of AmeriCorps, City Year is open to young people ages 17-24 with high school diplomas or a GED. Participants receive a living allowance and $5,000 educational grant at the end of their 10-month service. In this program, however, they work in one city for the entire term of service.

Open to low-income youth ages 16-24 and provides a monthly

Vida Sana, a program of DHDC, provides employment training
for youth ages 17-25, employability skills training, job placement,

Detroit Manufacturing Training Center,

Provides training and related services for the following populations: FIA Detroit metropolitan recipients; out of school youth; dislocated workers; Empowerment Zone residents; Detroit Housing Commission residents;
